SmartPower Celebrates a Decade of Energy Smarts!

Tenth Year Anniversary Kicks Off with a New Logo and the Launch of the New England Solar Challenge
SmartPower, the nation’s leading non-profit marketing organization dedicated to promoting clean energy and energy efficiency, today kicks off a yearlong celebration of activities and events highlighting its 10th anniversary.
“A decade is a lifetime in the not-for-profit world, and we’re proud to celebrate this significant achievement,” said Brian F. Keane, SmartPower’s founding president. “SmartPower was built on the idea that clean energy and energy efficiency can sell, so long as they are marketed with the same consumer-based approach that successfully sells everything from hamburgers to Coca-Cola. That’s exactly what we’ve done for 10 years – so let’s celebrate our achievements.”
Created in 2002 by some of the nation’s largest private foundations, including the Pew Charitable Trusts, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, The Surdna Foundation, The John Merck Fund, and the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund, SmartPower has spent the last 10 years solving today’s energy problems with innovative marketing approaches.
SmartPower’s convergence of traditional marketing strategies combined with on-the-ground outreach and innovative online, new media and social media strategies have earned it numerous awards and honors over the past decade. Just last month, SmartPower was awarded the coveted “Most Innovative Campaign” award by the Energy Daily.
To kick off the yearlong celebration, SmartPower completed a redesign of its logo, which now reads “Celebrating 10 Years of Energy Smarts.” Next month, the organization will launch the New England Solar Challenge – a unique residential solar marketing effort that unites SmartPower with its founding partners.
The New England Solar Challenge is bringing SmartPower together once again with The John Merck Fund, the Connecticut Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority (CEFIA) and the Massachusetts Clean Energy Collaborative (CEC) to launch Solarize Connecticut and Solarize Boston, two pilot residential solar programs that aggregate homeowners across communities to offer a discounted price for solar power.
“It’s only fitting that we are now celebrating our 10th anniversary by bringing the band back together to launch exciting pilot programs in Connecticut and Massachusetts” said Keane. “We look forward to celebrating 10 more years of ‘energy smarts’ with more programs across New England and beyond. With ten years under our belt – we’re just getting started!”
