SmartPower COR Takes Massachusetts Energy Program to New Heights in 2011

SmartPower’s COR approach, including community outreach, online platforms/social marketing, and rewards and incentives, proved to be effective in Massachusetts as the four community outreach towns in the Western Mass Saves pilot program outperformed all others in terms of energy efficiency program signups.

A complete list of customer penetration rates, as measured by web signups for the Western Massachusetts Electric Company’s personalized energy savings recommendations and rewards program, is listed below:

  1. Sunderland 8.9%
  2. Easthampton 6.6%
  3. Amherst 6.6%
  4. Ludlow 5.1%
  5. Southwick 5.0%
  6. Longmeadow 4.7%
  7. Agawam 4.4%
  8. West Springfield 4.0%
  9. Feeding Hills 4.2%
  10. Pittsfield 3.8%
  11. Springfield 3.4%
  12. Greenfield 3.4%
  13. All others 3.5%

Sunderland, Easthampton, Amherst and Ludlow constantly exceeded expectations as SmartPower’s COR approach worked its magic. These towns demonstrated that community marketing outreach provides support beyond traditional strategies, bringing awareness and involvement to the program through partnerships, testimonials and local media.

It’s clear that the combination of the COR elements (community outreach, online platforms/social marketing, and rewards and incentives) yields the strongest results. SmartPower was pleased to see its programs succeed in 2011 and expects even more progress to be made in 2012.
