Town of Bedford, N.Y., recognizes local energy champions for more than $40k in energy savings

In a ceremony Monday night, officials in the Town of Bedford recognized 21 local homeowners (above) for their individual efforts to make their homes more energy efficient. These homeowners are projected to reduce energy consumption 10 to 40 percent, saving approximately $43,000 on their combined home energy costs – a significant achievement that Bedford hopes will catch on throughout the town and across Westchester County.
Lee Roberts, Supervisor of Bedford, lauded the residents for preparing for America’s energy future and thanked them for reducing energy use in the community.
“Bedford’s commitment to reducing energy use 20 percent by 2020 is exemplified by the people we recognized this evening,” Roberts said. “The results of these energy improvements are dramatic, and I think these kinds of cost savings will inspire more residents to seek comprehensive energy upgrades as we move into winter.”
Bedford residents who were recognized at the event included Andrew Chintz, Don Coe, Mary Beth Kass, Dan Potash, Olivia Farr, and R.J. Marx, along with 15 others.

Participants received a certificate and official program seal recognizing their homes as reducing energy consumption between 10 and 40 percent. The awards demonstrate the importance the community and the Town of Bedford place on achieving its overall energy reduction goals.
“Taking actions to make my home more energy efficient was a no-brainer, and an important step in improving the quality of life in Bedford,” said Mary Beth Kass, one of the homeowners recognized at the meeting. “I hope my experience can be a model for other homeowners, as well.”
In addition to these 21 homeowners, A-Home Executive Director Joan Arnold also received a $2,000 check from Bedford 2020, recognizing A-Home’s achievements in the Energize Community Challenge. A-Home’s pursuit of upgrades beat out several other local organizations in the competition’s second phase.
“Bedford 2020 is excited to recognize these community leaders for their willingness to ambitiously pursue Home Performance energy upgrades. Though we may live in a small town, we have the opportunity to be a model community for the state and nation,” said Ellen Conrad, co-president of Bedford 2020. “We’re dedicated to ensuring homeowners in Bedford are afforded every opportunity to save on their home energy bills. We hope this formal recognition will encourage others to take similar steps.”
“Bedford 2020’s local leadership and community outreach efforts are key factors in the growing success of our program,” said Tom Bregman, Director of Energize Bedford and Energize New York. “Their commitment to creating a more sustainable community was on display tonight.”
